Early life and background history:
At the age of four, she started learning Manipuri dance from a teacher, with her elder sister in Nagpur.
When she started going to Pandanallur School she started learning the Bharatanatyam dancing style from different gurus and at that time her age is 7 years old.
She completes his “Praveen and” and “Kovid” degrees from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Sanskrit, therefore she completed the degree of B.A (Hons) in German Literature from Elphinstone College, Bombay.
When she enters at the age of 18 her real training of dance started. But her family conflict, then she decided to go to Bangalore, to learn the Bharatanatyam from the guru Chandrabhaga Devi and Prof. U. S. Krishna Rao.
In 1965 Sonal started learning Odissi from Kelucharan Mohapatra.
Sonal was married to a former Indian diplomat Lalit Mansingh, but later the couple decided to divorce. The dancing career of Sonal started in 1962, after her first debut in Mumbai.
